The VK236 is a dedicated IR and serial expansion box that extends the control port capacity of ATEN control systems. When a single VK2100 controller runs short of IR or serial outputs for a growing AV or building-automation deployment, the VK236 adds six additional control paths without requiring a controller replacement. The expander connects to the VK2100 and is addressed via a physical 8-segment DIP switch — set the Expander ID once during commissioning and the controller maps it automatically. A semi-recessed reset button prevents accidental resets in rack or recessed installations. Firmware is field-upgradeable via the rear USB Type-A port (firmware upgrade use only — not for data), with the current release at v4.2.413 (2026-05-18).
The VK236 is designed for use with the ATEN VK2100 control system. It integrates directly into the VK2100's expansion architecture and is managed through ATEN's CCMS (Control Center Management Software). It is not a standalone controller and does not operate independently of a compatible ATEN host unit. Confirm your VK2100 firmware supports expansion box pairing before deployment — the VK236's current firmware (v4.2.413) should be matched to the host controller's release cycle.
The VK236 supports both recessed and rack-mount installations — verify your enclosure plan before ordering, as the mounting format affects cable routing to the IR emitters and serial devices downstream. The unit operates within a humidity range of 0–80% RH non-condensing; avoid installations in high-moisture environments such as unconditioned utility closets or outdoor enclosures without climate control. Set the 8-segment Expander ID switch before powering the unit — changing the ID after installation requires a readdress cycle in CCMS. Use the USB port exclusively for firmware upgrades; connecting data peripherals will not function and may interfere with normal operation.
