Overview

The Middle Atlantic U4V-4 is a 4-rack-unit vented utility shelf sold in a four-pack, built for integrators who need to mount non-racked equipment — power bricks, media converters, DVRs, unmanaged switches, or other box-format hardware — inside a standard 19-inch EIA rack. Each shelf occupies 4 RU and provides 15.5 inches of usable depth, which accommodates most mid-size NVRs and AV components without forcing a deeper rack enclosure. The vented deck promotes passive airflow, reducing heat buildup when shelves are stacked in enclosed rack cabinets. Buying as a four-pack (U4V-4) makes sense for multi-rack installations or system integrators staging equipment for multiple jobs at once.

Compatibility

Fits any standard 19-inch EIA rack enclosure, including Middle Atlantic's ERK, RK, and WRK rack series, as well as third-party open-frame and enclosed rack cabinets conforming to standard 19-inch rail spacing. The 85-lb weight capacity per shelf handles the loading requirements of most commercial NVR and DVR units, managed PoE switches, and multi-port media converter assemblies. The 15.88-inch overall depth fits comfortably in racks with at least 18 inches of interior depth. Two mounting points attach directly to the rack's front rails — no rear-rail support required. These shelves are not designed for rackmount servers or equipment requiring rear-rail chassis support.

Installation Notes

Each shelf mounts to the rack's front vertical rails at two points using standard cage nuts and screws (not included — use M6 or 12-24 hardware to match your rack rail standard). The 4 RU height per shelf means a four-shelf deployment consumes a full 16 RU — plan your rack layout accordingly before committing. Venting runs the full deck surface, so cabling should be routed through the shelf sides or rear to avoid blocking airflow. Weight capacity is 85 lbs per shelf; do not stack loads across multiple shelves to exceed that rating per unit.
