Description

Middle Atlantic U4V 4RU Vented Utility Rack Shelf

Overview

The Middle Atlantic U4V is a 4-rack-unit vented utility shelf designed for standard 19-inch equipment racks. At 15.5 inches of usable depth and an 85 lb weight capacity, the U4V handles full-size NVRs, UPS units, encoders, and other rack-mounted hardware without the shelf becoming the weak point in your installation. The vented deck keeps airflow moving through the rack — relevant when you are stacking heat-producing equipment like NVRs or PoE midspans in a closed AV or security rack enclosure. If you are retrofitting a rack with gear that lacks its own mounting ears, this shelf is the practical solution.

Compatibility

The U4V mounts in any standard EIA-310 19-inch rack using two mounting points (one on each side rail). It is compatible with Middle Atlantic rack enclosures and open-frame rack systems from any manufacturer that conform to the 19-inch EIA standard — including Middle Atlantic ERK, BGR, and WMRK series enclosures, as well as third-party racks from Panduit, Legrand, and similar commercial-grade manufacturers. The 15.88-inch overall depth and 15.5-inch usable depth accommodates most 1U and 2U appliances; verify your device depth before ordering if you are working in a shallow-depth wall enclosure. At 4 RU tall, this shelf provides generous clearance above and below seated equipment for cabling and ventilation access. Pair with a network video recorder or PoE network switch that ships without rack ears — this shelf removes the need for custom brackets or workarounds.

Installation Notes

The U4V installs via two mounting points — one per rack rail — using the existing threaded or square-hole rail pattern. No additional hardware is specified beyond standard rack screws matched to your rail type (M6 cage nuts for square-hole racks, or 10-32 for threaded rails). The vented deck requires no additional airflow provisions, but position heat-sensitive equipment above rather than below other heat-producing devices to use natural convection effectively. Width is fixed at 19 inches; this shelf is not adjustable for narrower sub-rack formats.
