The VM7814 is a four-port HDMI input expansion card for the ATEN VM1600A modular matrix switcher. It slots directly into the VM1600A's input card bays, adding four independent HDMI sources to the matrix without external converters or added rack space. Each port handles signals up to 4096x2160 at 60Hz (4:2:0) or 30Hz (4:4:4) — meaning you can route full 4K HDR sources at 60fps through the matrix when chroma subsampling is acceptable, or maintain full 4:4:4 color fidelity at 30Hz for color-critical applications like digital signage content review or broadcast monitoring. The maximum cable run per port is 5m, so plan input cabling accordingly when positioning sources relative to the matrix chassis. Audio is handled via four captive screw connectors (5-pole, green), each supporting stereo balanced or unbalanced signals — the captive screw termination locks audio lines securely against vibration in rack environments, which matters in broadcast racks and AV-over-IP installations where connectors work loose over time.
The VM7814 is designed exclusively for the ATEN VM1600A modular matrix switcher. It is not compatible with other ATEN matrix chassis or third-party modular switchers. Verify your VM1600A has available input card slots before ordering — the chassis supports a mix of input and output card types, and slot availability depends on your current configuration. Firmware v1.2.111 (released 2025-06-09) is the current supported release; update the VM1600A host firmware to ensure full compatibility with this card revision.
The 5-pole captive screw connectors require a small flat-blade screwdriver for termination — strip and tin balanced audio lines before insertion to ensure reliable contact. The card operates within 0–80% RH non-condensing; avoid installations in unconditioned spaces where condensation is possible. Maximum HDMI source cable length is 5m per port; use active HDMI cables or an HDMI extender if sources are located further from the chassis. Reference the VM1600A user manual (vm1600a-user-manual-w.pdf, rev. 2023-07-11) for card installation torque specs and slot assignment rules.
