Description

ATEN VM7824 4-Port True 4K HDMI Input Card

Overview

The VM7824 is a four-port HDMI input expansion card for the ATEN VM1600A modular matrix switcher. It adds four HDMI source connections to an available input slot, supporting True 4K at 4096x2160 or 3840x2160 at 60Hz with full 4:4:4 chroma sampling — meaning no color compression artifacts on high-contrast graphics, text overlays, or broadcast-grade video feeds. Each port handles signals up to 5.0m from the source device, so rack-adjacent AV equipment connects without active extension. The VM7824 also passes stereo balanced and unbalanced audio via 5-pole captive screw connectors, eliminating the need for a separate audio matrix on installations where analog audio breakout is required.

Compatibility

Designed exclusively for the ATEN VM1600A modular matrix switcher. The VM7824 occupies one input card slot in the VM1600A chassis — confirm available input slots before ordering. It is not interchangeable with output card slots and is not compatible with other ATEN matrix frames. Firmware v1.3.121 (released 2025-06-09) is the current supported release; verify your VM1600A chassis firmware is aligned to avoid input card detection issues. The VM1600A user manual (vm1600a-user-manual-w.pdf, revised 2023-07-11) covers slot assignment and card configuration procedures for this ATEN input card.

Installation Notes

Audio connections use 5-pole captive screw connectors — a small flathead screwdriver is required for termination. Audio signal type is stereo, supporting both balanced and unbalanced sources on the same connector type; verify source impedance matches your matrix audio configuration before wiring. Maximum cable run from HDMI source to card input is 5.0m; beyond this, signal integrity is not guaranteed without an active HDMI extender upstream. Operating humidity is rated 0–80% RH non-condensing — standard equipment-room conditions. Cards ship in carton lots of two; if only one card is needed, verify VM1600A accessory ordering quantities at time of purchase to avoid over-ordering.
