Description

ATEN VM8824 4-Port True 4K HDMI Output Card

Overview

The VM8824 is a four-port HDMI output expansion card for the ATEN modular matrix switching platform. It extends the VM1600A with four additional HDMI outputs capable of delivering full True 4K signals — up to 4096x2160 or 3840x2160 at 60Hz with full 4:4:4 chroma sampling — making it a practical fit for production environments where color fidelity matters, not just resolution. Each port carries both video and embedded audio, so a single card handles four independent display feeds without additional signal processing hardware. The VM8824 supports firmware field-upgrades; the current release is v1.3.122.

Compatibility

The VM8824 is designed for the ATEN VM1600A modular 4K matrix switcher. It occupies one output module slot in that chassis. Verify available output slots in your VM1600A before ordering — the chassis supports multiple output cards, but slot count is fixed by the base unit. This card is not compatible with earlier ATEN matrix chassis (VM1600 non-A revision) or any non-VM1600A platform.

Installation Notes

Each of the four outputs uses a captive screw connector (5-pole) rather than a standard HDMI jack, so plan for appropriate cabling terminated to captive screw at the card end. The connector supports stereo balanced and unbalanced audio simultaneously, which means you can feed professional balanced audio infrastructure without a separate audio breakout. Maximum signal run length from card output to display is 5.0m — for longer runs, pair with an HDMI extender downstream. Operate within 0–80% RH non-condensing; the card is rack-mounted inside the VM1600A chassis, so ambient environment of the rack room applies directly.
