Overview
The VM8584K1 is a four-port 10G fiber output card designed for ATEN modular matrix switchers, extending signal reach over multimode fiber where copper or active-cable runs fall short. This card carries four independent 10G channels over OM3 multimode fiber up to 300m (984 ft) per port — enough to span a large campus building or connect an AV matrix rack to remote display endpoints across a data center floor. Each port uses a bi-directional SFP+ LC duplex interface, so the same card handles both transmit and receive on a single fiber pair. For installations requiring longer haul — up to 10km — the singlemode variant VM8584K2 uses SM LC Duplex and blue-labeled SFPs; specify that model at design time, as the two cards are not field-interchangeable. Four IR channels via Mini Stereo Jack Female connectors allow infrared control signals to follow the video path, keeping remote displays under local control without separate IR wiring runs.

The VM8584K1 is an output card for ATEN's modular matrix switcher chassis — specifically the VM8584-series 10G optical output slot architecture. Confirm your chassis accepts the VM8584K1 card format before ordering; this card does not install into non-modular ATEN switchers or third-party matrix frames. SFP+ transceivers must match OM3 multimode fiber (LC Duplex) at the installed distance — the card's 300m rating assumes OM3 glass. OM2 plant will reduce reach; verify fiber type in existing conduit before commission.
Installation Notes
Operating humidity is rated 0–80% RH non-condensing — suitable for conditioned equipment rooms but not uncontrolled outdoor enclosures. Firmware v1.1.104 (released 2025-05-22, file vm8584-v1.1.104.zip) is the current release; update the card after seating it in the chassis before commissioning outputs. Cards ship in a carton lot of two units.
