Overview
The VM8584K2 is a 4-port 10G singlemode optical output card for ATEN's modular matrix switcher chassis. Where the multimode variant (VM8584K1) caps fiber runs at 300m, the VM8584K2 uses singlemode (SM) fiber with blue LC duplex connectors to push signals up to 10km — the right card when you need to distribute 4K content or AV signals across a campus, between buildings, or over dark fiber that spans a facility perimeter. Each of the four ports is a bi-directional SFP+ (LC) interface running at 10Gbps, meaning a single card handles four independent, full-bandwidth output channels simultaneously.
Compatibility
The VM8584K2 is an output card designed for ATEN's modular matrix chassis line — specifically the ATEN VM-series video matrix switchers that accept VM8000-series I/O cards (e.g., VM1600, VM3200, VM6404, VM6809). Before ordering, confirm your chassis accepts 10G optical output cards and that your installed firmware is compatible with v1.1.104. On the fiber plant side, the VM8584K2 requires singlemode LC duplex fiber; it will not operate on multimode (OM3) runs — that's the VM8584K1. Each port pairs with an SFP+ optical transceiver suited for SM fiber at the target distance. Four IR pass-through channels are provided via 3.5mm mini stereo jack (female, black) for control signal extension alongside the optical video path.
Installation Notes
Fiber runs must be singlemode LC duplex — blue connector coding distinguishes SM ports from the black MM connectors on the VM8584K1, reducing mis-patching in mixed-fiber environments. The card operates within 0–80% RH non-condensing; install in a conditioned rack space. Firmware v1.1.104 (released 2025-05-22) is the current release — flash before deployment if the chassis ships on an earlier build.
