Description

Middle Atlantic RC-3 3U Clamping Rackshelf

Overview

The Middle Atlantic RC-3 is a 3U rack-mount shelf designed for integrators who need a fixed, non-vented surface inside a standard 19-inch equipment rack. At 15.1 inches of usable depth and a 70 lb weight capacity, the RC-3 handles mid-weight gear — think NVRs, UPS units, or AV receivers that lack rear rack ears. The clamping design secures equipment without side rails, keeping the install clean when front-panel access is the priority. If you're fitting surveillance recorders or network appliances into an enclosure that ships without a proper shelf, this is the RC-3's exact use case.

Compatibility

Fits any standard EIA 19-inch rack rail system — including Middle Atlantic's own rack enclosures (ERK, WRK, and RK series), open-frame racks, and third-party 19-inch cabinets from Tripp Lite, Belden, Legrand, and similar. Accommodates equipment up to 15.1 inches deep; anything deeper will overhang the shelf surface, which matters on rear-cable management. The 3U height occupies 5.25 inches of vertical rack space — confirm rack unit availability before ordering in a dense build. UL-listed load capacity is 50 lbs; the manufacturer's rated weight capacity extends to 70 lbs — plan to the UL figure for compliance-sensitive installations. Mounting relies on 2 mounting points, so rack rail alignment is straightforward on standard EIA hole patterns.

Installation Notes

The shelf slides into the rack and clamps via the front mounting ears — no rear rail contact required, which simplifies installation in racks with limited rear-rail depth. Width is fixed at 19 inches; this is not an adjustable-depth sliding shelf. Verify your rack's interior clearance accommodates the 15.37-inch overall shelf depth before cutting the order. Shipping weight is 8.6 lbs; factor that into freight estimates on multi-unit rack builds.
