Overview
The KL1516AN is a 1U rack-mount LCD KVM switch that consolidates control of up to 16 directly attached servers — and scales to 512 nodes via daisy-chain — from a single integrated console. Designed for dense data center and server room environments where rack space is at a premium, it eliminates the need for a separate crash cart while keeping all server access local to the rack. The built-in LCD panel runs at up to 1920×1200 @ 60 Hz, giving you a full-resolution second console without adding external monitors to the equation. Port switching is handled three ways — OSD menu, hotkey sequences, or front-panel pushbuttons — so operators can work at whatever speed the situation demands. Auto-scan across servers is configurable from 1 to 255 seconds, practical for NOC environments that need a rolling view without manual intervention.
Compatibility
The KL1516AN supports PS/2, USB, and Serial keyboard and mouse interfaces, covering legacy and modern server generations in the same chain. It is compatible with the broader ATEN KL/KH/KM Cat5 KVM family for daisy-chain expansion — connect additional 8- or 16-port ATEN Cat5 KVM units downstream to reach the 512-node ceiling. The front-panel USB Type-A port handles external mouse connection directly. Universal 100–240V AC input (50–60 Hz, 1A max) means no separate transformer is required in international deployments.
Installation Notes
Rack-mount form factor fits a standard 19-inch rack enclosure. Operating humidity ceiling is 80% RH non-condensing — not rated for high-moisture environments without supplemental climate control. The LED illumination light on the front panel assists low-light rack work. Firmware is field-upgradeable; current release is v1.7.161 (2025-06-17), distributed as a zip package applicable to both KL1508A and KL1516A platforms.
