ATEN KL1508AIM 8-Port Cat5 Dual-Rail LCD KVM over IP Switch
Overview
The KL1508AIM is a 1U rack-mount, dual-rail KVM switch that integrates a 17-inch LCD console with an 8-port Cat5 KVM-over-IP back end. Designed for data center and server room environments where direct console access and remote management must coexist, the KL1508AIM eliminates the need for a separate monitor, keyboard, and mouse at the rack — the LCD and keyboard/touchpad fold into the chassis when not in use. Remote access is handled over IP via the integrated IP card (firmware v1.6.155), so administrators can manage connected servers from anywhere on the network without a dedicated crash cart. The 250 cd/m² panel delivers adequate brightness for typical raised-floor lighting conditions. OSD, hotkey, and front-panel pushbutton port selection give operators three ways to switch between connected servers, reducing time-to-console during incidents.
Compatibility
The KL1508AIM connects to servers via Cat5/5e/6 cabling using compatible KVM adapter cables (sold separately — ATEN KA7xxx series for PS/2 and USB targets). Both PS/2 and USB keyboard/mouse interfaces are supported on connected servers, covering the majority of x86 server hardware in production today. Daisy-chaining via compatible ATEN KVM switches expands the port count up to 128 servers from a single IP address and console — a meaningful reduction in IP KVM licensing overhead for large racks. Compatible daisy-chain units include ATEN KL1516AIM and KL1508AIM units in cascaded configurations. The integrated IP card supports remote access compatible with standard web browsers and the ATEN Windows Client viewer.
Installation Notes
Requires a standard 1U rack bay. Power input is IEC 60320/C14, accepting 100–240V AC at 50–60 Hz, 1A — compatible with both North American and international PDUs without an adapter. Humidity tolerance is 0–80% RH non-condensing; do not install in environments subject to condensation. Scan interval for auto-switching is configurable from 1 to 255 seconds via OSD. Local firmware is field-upgradeable (current release v1.7.163, dated 2026-03-25); IP card firmware updates separately (v1.6.155). Adapter cables are not included — order the appropriate ATEN KA7xxx cables for each server's interface type before deployment.
