Overview
The KL1516AIM is a 1U rack-mounted, dual-rail KVM switch that integrates a 17-inch LCD console with 16 KVM ports and an IP remote access card — letting a single operator manage up to 16 servers directly from the rack or from anywhere on the network via browser. This unit is purpose-built for data center console drawers where space is at a premium and engineers need both local hands-on access and out-of-band remote control without separate crash carts or standalone IPMI adapters. The built-in IP card (v1.6.155) means remote sessions are hardware-level — you get BIOS-access and power-cycle visibility even when the OS is unresponsive. Port selection via OSD, hotkey, or front-panel pushbuttons keeps local workflow efficient without mousing through software menus.
Compatibility
The KL1516AIM accepts both PS/2 and USB keyboard/mouse connections, covering legacy servers still running PS/2 interfaces alongside modern USB-only systems. It is daisy-chainable with compatible ATEN KVM switches in the KL/KH/KM series, scaling the managed port count up to 256 servers from a single IP access point — relevant for mid-size data centers that need centralized remote access without deploying multiple independent KVM-over-IP units. Power input is IEC 60320/C14, standard on all 1U rack PDUs, so no adapter is required in a typical cabinet. The OSD and hotkey port selection are compatible with the KL1516AiN firmware baseline (Local v1.7.163, released 2026-03-25).
Installation Notes
Input power requires 100–240V AC, 50–60 Hz at 1A maximum — draw is low enough for a single PDU outlet with no dedicated circuit. Humidity tolerance is 0–80% RH non-condensing; do not install in environments with condensation risk or above 80% RH. The LCD panel delivers 250 cd/m² luminance, adjusted via 4 front-panel pushbuttons — sufficient for typical raised-floor lighting but may appear dim in high-ambient-light server rooms. ATEN's rack-dimension convention for this product expresses physical size as L×W×H rather than the W×D×H standard; confirm rack depth clearance before ordering.
