Description

Viking Electronics K-1700-IP VoIP Stainless Steel Entry Phone with Keypad

Overview

The Viking Electronics K-1700-IP is a SIP 2.0 VoIP entry phone built for commercial and institutional access points where durability and tamper resistance are non-negotiable. Constructed from 14-gauge louvered 316 stainless steel with permanent laser-etched graphics, the faceplate is engineered to withstand sustained physical abuse — the grade of steel and gauge thickness matter at a staffed lobby or an unmonitored utility entrance. The K-1700-IP supports up to 250 programmable directory numbers with 250 rollover numbers, 1,000 keyless entry codes, and 1,000 proximity card credentials, giving you enough capacity to cover a mid-sized building without an external access controller. Two sets of SPDT relay contacts (2 amp) provide direct door-strike or gate integration without additional relay hardware. Power comes from a standard PoE Class 2 source drawing under 6.5 watts — any 802.3af-capable switch port works, no local power wiring required. Audio codecs include G.711u, G.711a, and G.722, with G.722 delivering HD-quality voice over the intercom path where your SIP platform supports it. The unit installs flush via the included rough-in box or surface-mounts with an optional VE-6x7 enclosure. Operating range spans -40°F to 140°F with 5–95% non-condensing humidity on standard models.

Compatibility

The K-1700-IP registers as a standard SIP 2.0 (RFC 3261) endpoint and is compatible with any SIP-compliant IP PBX or hosted UCaaS platform — Asterisk, FreePBX, 3CX, Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Microsoft Teams Direct Routing configurations, and similar environments. Network interface is 100BASE-TX via RJ-45. For extended weather protection, the K-1700-IP-EWP variant adds up to 100% humidity tolerance and full IP66 ingress protection; the standard K-1700-IP carries IP66 only on EWP models. The included rough-in box accepts standard single-gang rough-in locations. Surface mounting requires the separately ordered VE-6x7 enclosure.

Installation Notes

Wire terminations use 14 gel-filled butt connectors supplied with the unit — gel-fill is critical for outdoor installations to prevent moisture wicking into the connection. PoE feed must be 802.3af Class 2 or higher; verify your switch port's per-port power allocation before deployment, as Class 2 devices can be under-provisioned on older managed switches with per-port power caps. Rough-in box dimensions are 4.5" x 5.5" x 2.5"; verify rough-in depth before drywall close-in. Regulatory compliance covers CE, FCC Part 15, and ICES-003 Class A.
