It is telephone line powered — no separate power supply or PoE infrastructure required — making it straightforward to wire into existing analog telephone systems or door entry controllers. The unit ships flush-mount-ready with a rough-in box included; surface mounting requires the optional VE-6x7 enclosure.
Compatibility
The K-1700-3-BN integrates with any analog telephone system or door entry controller that accepts a standard REN 0.5A telephone line connection. It is part of the Viking Electronics K-1700-3 Series, and is compatible with Viking door controllers and entry systems designed for analog handsfree call boxes. The included rough-in box supports flush mounting in standard wall cavities. For entry phone and intercom deployments requiring surface mounting — common in retrofit or concrete wall installs — pair with the Viking VE-6x7 surface mount box (sold separately). The bronze finish matches the K-1700-3-BN-EWP variant if an enhanced weather protection version is needed for the same opening.
Installation Notes

Operating range is -20°F to 130°F with humidity up to 95% non-condensing — suitable for most North American exterior climates, though extreme cold-climate installs below -20°F require a vandal resistant entry phone rated to lower thresholds. Speaker output is 70 dB maximum at 1 meter — adequate for a single-door vestibule, but evaluate ambient noise levels in high-traffic lobbies before specifying. Overall unit dimensions are 5.5" x 6.5" x 2.6"; confirm rough opening dimensions before rough-in.
