Overview
The K-1700-3-BN-EWP is a handsfree, telephone-line-powered entry phone built for apartment buildings, residential door entry, and commercial access points where aesthetics and physical toughness must coexist. The oil rubbed bronze finish on a 14-gauge louvered 316 stainless steel faceplate gives the unit an architectural look without sacrificing impact resistance. IP66-rated and rated for -30°F to 150°F operation at up to 100% condensing humidity, it handles outdoor vestibule and exterior wall installations that would destroy a standard intercom. It ships ready for flush mount via the included rough-in box (4.5" x 5.5" x 2.5") and also supports surface mount when paired with the optional VE-6x7 back box — the "EWP" (Enhanced Weather Protection) designation signals that variant. Speaker output reaches 70 dB maximum at 1 meter, sufficient for noisy lobbies without external amplification. Telephone-line power means no separate supply run — just a standard POTS or compatible VoIP line.

Designed around the Viking Electronics K-1700-3 Series platform. The K-1700-3-BN-EWP is the oil rubbed bronze, EWP surface-mount-capable variant; it is functionally compatible with the same wiring infrastructure as the K-1700-3 (stainless steel, flush-only) and K-1700-3-BN (bronze, flush-only without EWP). For surface mount installations, the optional VE-6x7 back box is required — the included rough-in box alone does not support surface mounting. Pairs with any access control system or door strike that accepts a standard telephone-line trigger signal. Compatible with analog POTS lines and telephone-line-powered VoIP adapters that deliver the required line voltage.
Installation Notes
Faceplate fasteners use T-10 Torx security screws — a T-10 Torx driver is required; standard Phillips tools will not work, which is intentional for tamper resistance. REN load is 0.5A; verify your line supports it when ganging multiple devices. Minimum disconnect time is 500ms — configure any downstream PBX or ATA accordingly to avoid premature call drop. Overall unit dimensions are 5.5" x 6.5" x 2.6"; rough-in box is 4.5" x 5.5" x 2.5" — confirm wall depth before cutting. For surface mount, source the VE-6x7 separately before scheduling rough-in work.
