The UCE260 is the remote unit half of ATEN's USB 2.0 extension system, purpose-built to place a single USB 2.0 peripheral up to 60 meters (196 ft) from a host system over standard Cat5, Cat5e, or Cat6 structured cabling. Rather than running dedicated USB cable — which tops out at 5 meters before signal degradation — the UCE260 lets you drop a USB device (scanner, card reader, camera, or HID peripheral) anywhere your Cat infrastructure already reaches. This is the correct buy when you need only the remote/device-side unit and already own or are separately ordering the local/host-side transmitter from ATEN's UCE260 kit. If you need the complete transmitter-and-receiver pair, verify you are ordering the full kit rather than this standalone remote unit.
The UCE260 remote unit is designed to work within ATEN's USB extender system and supports USB 2.0 high-speed (480 Mbps), full-speed (12 Mbps), and low-speed (1.5 Mbps) device classes — covering the bandwidth range needed for HID devices, barcode scanners, card readers, and similar USB extension use cases. It supports one USB device per remote unit. ATEN explicitly notes that USB video device compatibility should be verified with the device manufacturer before deployment — USB video class (UVC) devices are sensitive to latency introduced by extension, and not all webcams or capture devices will perform reliably at 60m. For multi-port or multi-device remote scenarios, ATEN's broader KVM and connectivity accessory line includes hub-equipped extender variants worth evaluating.
Cabling must be Cat5, Cat5e, or Cat6 — Cat3 and flat/silver-satin telephone cable will not reliably carry the signal at full extension distance. Keep runs within 60m (196 ft) point-to-point; patch panels add connectors that can introduce insertion loss, so factor those into your run budget. The unit draws power via a DC power jack — confirm a compatible power supply is available at the remote drop location, as the remote end is not bus-powered from the host. Operating humidity must stay within 0–80% RH non-condensing; avoid deployments in high-moisture environments such as loading docks with pressure-wash exposure or unconditioned exterior enclosures. For structured cabling runs in ceiling plenum, use plenum-rated Cat cable as required by local code — ATEN does not supply the cable.
