Ubiquiti UISP-S Gigabit PoE Management Switch
Overview
The Ubiquiti UISP-S is a dedicated management and switching device engineered for fiber-based service provider deployments. This unit consolidates layer 2 switching and management functions in a single appliance, reducing operational overhead in distributed fiber networks. Operating entirely over Power over Ethernet (PoE), the UISP-S eliminates the need for dedicated AC power at remote sites—a critical advantage for fiber termination points, network aggregation nodes, and locations where electrical infrastructure is unavailable or restricted.
Compatibility
The UISP-S integrates natively with the Ubiquiti UISP management platform, providing provisioning, monitoring, and diagnostic capabilities across the entire UISP ecosystem. It is positioned as a managed edge node within fiber service provider architectures, compatible with FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) and FTTB (fiber-to-the-building) deployments. The device functions as a local switching and management hub at aggregation points where multiple subscriber devices or CPEs converge before backhaul transmission. Specific compatibility extends to multi-tenant fiber installations where real-time telemetry and centralized visibility are required.
Installation Notes
The UISP-S draws power exclusively via PoE, simplifying field deployment in environmentally constrained locations. Nine Gigabit Ethernet ports (10/100/1000 Mbps) support both uplink and device connectivity within a compact form factor. Deployment scenarios typically position the unit at fiber aggregation points where cabinet space and power availability are limited, making it suitable for outdoor enclosures, pole-mounted cabinets, and buildings without dedicated service entry. PoE power delivery enables staging and operation without local electrical service, a key requirement for rapid network expansion in residential and commercial fiber footprints.
