Deployment Considerations:

• PoE power budget is tight: 5W hub + typical solenoid lock (12–24V DC, 300–800 mA peak) can draw up to 50W during lock energization. Verify your PoE injector or switch supplies 50W minimum per port; underpowered ports cause intermittent lock failures or hub resets. Use a dedicated PoE port, not a shared budget with cameras.
• IP54 rating does not cover full outdoor exposure: rain-driven spray, direct hose-down, or submerged conduit can breach seals within 1–2 years. Mount in covered alcoves only. If you need full exterior deployment, spec a higher IP rating (IP55/IP67 alternatives) or add weatherproof junction-box wrapping.
• Single-door architecture scales linearly by cost and complexity: adding 10 doors means purchasing 10 hubs, 10 lock relays, 10 Ethernet runs. For large campuses, calculate total hub cost vs. a central multi-door controller (if Ubiquiti offers one at your scale). Distributed model is fine for 1–5 doors; beyond that, revisit architecture.
• Network segmentation matters: access control hub and 4K camera streams on the same 10/100 Mbps port can create latency. We recommend separate VLANs or PoE injectors on isolated switch ports. Ensure your workflow includes reminder notifications to revoke expired passes — overstuffed credential lists slow down reader response time (typically <100 ms per card scan, but can degrade to 500 ms+ with 10,000+ expired credentials). Purge archived credentials quarterly.

The Ubiquiti UA-G3-SK-PRO is the right choice if you're retrofitting a single office entrance, expanding a modular building, or piloting UniFi Access in a mixed-credential environment.
