Overview
The ATEN VC882 is an HDMI signal repeater that re-drives a 4K HDMI source up to 5 meters while simultaneously embedding an external audio feed into the HDMI stream. The VC882 accepts both analog stereo and digital coaxial audio inputs, letting you inject audio from a separate source — a microphone preamp, DSP, or legacy analog device — directly into the HDMI signal path without a separate AV receiver or matrix switch. The result is a single HDMI cable delivering synchronized audio and video to the display or AV endpoint. Practical use cases include digital signage installations where the media player has no audio input, boardroom AV rigs where microphone feeds need merging into a presentation signal, and surveillance monitoring stations where audio annotation is needed alongside HDMI video output from an NVR or workstation. The maximum supported resolution is 4096x2160 at 60Hz (4:4:4, 8-bit), so the VC882 does not degrade the signal when passing HDR or high-frame-rate 4K content. The VC882 works with any HDMI source and display supporting up to 4K/60Hz (4:4:4). For digital audio embedding, the coaxial input accepts LPCM 2.0, Dolby Digital 2.0, Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS Digital 5.1 — covering the standard formats output by Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, cable boxes, and professional audio processors. The 3-pin terminal block accepts analog stereo unbalanced (LPCM 2.0) from consumer or pro-AV sources with a standard line-level output. Installation Notes
Maximum HDMI cable run on either side of the VC882 is 5 meters — this is a repeater, not an extender, so the 5m limit applies to the total segment length, not an extension beyond an existing run. The analog audio input uses a 3-pin terminal block; wire gauge and connector torque should follow standard low-voltage terminal block practices. Operating humidity is rated to 80% RH non-condensing — suitable for most indoor commercial environments but not for high-moisture or outdoor enclosures. Firmware upgrades are performed via Micro USB; keep a laptop accessible during commissioning if deploying the latest firmware is part of your acceptance checklist.
