ATEN VE883ATK1 True 4K HDMI Optical Fiber Transmitter
Overview
The VE883ATK1 is the transmitter unit of ATEN's VE883A True 4K HDMI-over-fiber extender system, designed to send 4K HDMI signals over SFP+ duplex multimode (OM3) LC fiber at distances up to 985 ft (300 m). This is the source-end device — it connects to your HDMI signal source and the fiber run heading toward the remote display. If you need to extend 4K content across a building without signal degradation from long copper HDMI runs, this is the install pattern it fits: connect the VE883ATK1 at the head end, run OM3 LC duplex fiber to the companion receiver, and recover full 4K resolution at the display. It supports resolutions from 480p through true 4K at 3840×2160p and 4096×2160p up to 60 Hz, including 1920×1080 at 120, 144, and 240 Hz for high-refresh-rate sources. A built-in 1 x GbE (RJ-45 Female) Ethernet channel means you can carry network data alongside the video signal over the same fiber run — one less cable pathway to plan.
Compatibility
The VE883ATK1 is the transmitter (TX) half of the ATEN VE883A fiber extender kit. It pairs exclusively with the VE883ARK1 (multimode) or VE883ARK2 (singlemode) receiver units. The multimode variant (VE883AK1) uses OM3 LC duplex fiber; the singlemode variant (VE883AK2) uses SM LC duplex fiber for longer runs. Do not mix multimode and singlemode optics — the SFP+ modules must match on both ends. This transmitter is compatible with the full VE883A input resolution range, including VESA and consumer display timings across HDMI extender deployments: 640×480 through 1920×1080 at standard and high-refresh rates, plus 4K DCI (4096×2160) and UHD (3840×2160) at 24/25/30/50/60 Hz. The 4:2:0 chroma subsampling modes (3840×2160p 50 Hz 4:2:0 and 60 Hz 4:2:0) are also supported, which matters for sources that output 4K60 only in 4:2:0.
Installation Notes
Maximum fiber patch length at the transmitter end is up to 5 m — this is the local fiber jumper from the transmitter to the in-wall fiber run, not the total system distance (total system reach is up to 300 m over OM3). Power connects via a DC jack with locking connector; verify the power supply is seated and locked before sealing any enclosure. Operating humidity is rated 0–80% RH, non-condensing — do not install in unconditioned spaces subject to condensation. SFP+ modules are field-replaceable; confirm OM3 LC duplex SFP+ modules are installed and matched at both the transmitter and receiver ends before commissioning.
