The TL-SG108S is an unmanaged 8-port Gigabit Ethernet switch housed in a steel desktop enclosure. It solves the fundamental network distribution problem in small-scale security and automation deployments: connecting multiple devices (IP cameras, wireless access points, edge recorders, sensors) to a single network segment without VLAN complexity or managed switching overhead. Zero configuration required—plug power and network cables, and forwarding begins immediately. This is the right fit for integrators deploying compact installations where simplicity and cost take priority over per-port PoE or remote management.
The TL-SG108S connects any device with a standard RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet interface: IP cameras, NVRs, PoE-powered sensors, managed network switches, and standard enterprise endpoints. It does not supply power itself—if your deployment requires PoE delivery, pair this switch with a dedicated PoE injector upstream or deploy PoE-enabled cameras and endpoints independently. All eight ports operate at 1000 Mbps full-duplex when both connected devices support Gigabit speeds, ensuring no bandwidth bottleneck between cameras and recorders.
Unmanaged switching means no VLAN segregation, no traffic filtering, and no QoS prioritization. If your security infrastructure requires network isolation (e.g., separating camera traffic from administrative traffic), or if you need remote diagnostics and port-level statistics, upgrade to a managed variant in the TP-Link line. The desktop steel case is designed for tabletop placement; it is not DIN-rail mountable and not intended for harsh outdoor or temperature-cycling environments. Verify ambient operating temperature for your facility—contact the manufacturer if exact range is critical to your site conditions.
