The TL-SG108S is an unmanaged 8-port Gigabit Ethernet switch in a steel desktop enclosure. It solves the fundamental network distribution problem in small-scale security and automation deployments: connecting multiple devices—IP cameras, wireless access points, edge recorders, sensors—to a single network segment without VLAN complexity or managed switching overhead. Zero configuration required. Plug power and network cables, and forwarding begins immediately. This is the correct fit for integrators deploying compact installations where simplicity and cost take priority over per-port PoE or remote management.
The TL-SG108S connects any device with a standard RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet interface: IP cameras, NVRs, PoE-powered sensors, managed network switches, and standard enterprise endpoints. All eight ports operate at 1000 Mbps full-duplex when both connected devices support Gigabit speeds, ensuring no bandwidth bottleneck between cameras and recorders. The switch does not supply power itself—if your deployment requires PoE delivery, pair this unit with a dedicated PoE injector upstream or deploy PoE-enabled cameras and endpoints independently. It is not DIN-rail mountable; if your cabinet layout requires rail mounting, select a managed alternative from the TP-Link industrial line.
The steel desktop enclosure includes two wall-mounting holes on the bottom panel. Mount the switch upright using two screws (ANSI B1.1 standard, minimum 7.5 mm length for most configurations). Verify wall anchor type for your facility. The switch is not rated for harsh outdoor or temperature-cycling environments—confirm ambient operating conditions with the manufacturer if exact thermal range is critical to your site. Unmanaged switching means no VLAN segregation, no traffic filtering, and no QoS prioritization. If your security infrastructure requires network isolation (e.g., separating camera traffic from administrative traffic) or remote diagnostics, upgrade to a managed variant.
