Description

TP-Link TL-SG108 8-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Desktop Switch

Overview

The TL-SG108 is an 8-port 10/100/1000M gigabit switch designed for plug-and-play network expansion in small to mid-scale IP surveillance and enterprise deployments. Each port delivers full gigabit throughput (1000 Mbps), eliminating bandwidth bottlenecks common on Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) infrastructure. The steel case provides mechanical durability suitable for rack-adjacent or wall-mounted cabinet placement. Unmanaged operation means zero configuration overhead — plug in, power on, and route traffic immediately. This simplicity is valuable when integration speed matters more than per-port management or VLANing.

Compatibility

The TL-SG108 works with any standard RJ-45 networked device: network switches, IP cameras, NVRs, access control panels, wireless infrastructure (requiring connection to a wireless access point), and PoE-enabled equipment. If your deployment includes powered devices requiring centralized PoE injector or switch-based power delivery, pair this unit upstream of a managed PoE-enabled switch or dedicated PoE midspan. The switch passes PoE traffic without degradation but does not originate PoE power itself.

Deployment Constraints

The TL-SG108 is unmanaged — no VLAN segmentation, no port mirroring, no SNMP monitoring. Deployments requiring network isolation or per-port management must place this unit behind a managed switch or substitute a TP-Link managed model (such as the TL-SG108E or higher-tier variants). Fanless design reduces noise but requires adequate passive cooling; confirm ambient temperature stays within manufacturer operating limits before mounting in sealed equipment cabinets.
