Overview
The TL-SG1008P is an 8-port unmanaged gigabit switch with integrated PoE on four ports—designed to simplify deployment of IP surveillance, wireless access points, and networked devices in small to mid-size installations. Four of the eight RJ45 ports deliver PoE power at a combined 64W budget, eliminating the need for external PoE injector solutions for modest camera counts. The steel chassis and desktop form factor fit standard 19-inch rack shelves or sit on a desk or wall-mounted surface. Plug-and-play operation requires no configuration—traffic switches automatically at wire speed across all ports.
Deployment Fit
This switch addresses small-scale IP camera rollouts (3–4 cameras), wireless access point clusters, or mixed device environments where managed switching and VLAN isolation are unnecessary. The 64W PoE budget supports multiple standard-power IP cameras simultaneously or a combination of cameras and low-power wireless gear. Gigabit ports ensure no throughput bottleneck even during peak multi-stream recording or live-view pull. This is not a managed unit—no SNMP, no QoS, no port mirroring for packet capture or analytics integration. If you need traffic shaping, redundancy, or deep diagnostics, step up to a managed network switch in the TP-Link lineup or from another vendor.
Power and Environmental Constraints
The TL-SG1008P requires AC power (wall adapter or internal PSU—verify power input specs with TP-Link directly for your region). Desktop operation assumes indoor, climate-controlled environments; no IP67 or IP66 rating, so weather protection is not built in. The 64W PoE budget is shared across all four PoE ports—if you plan to run four cameras at 20W each, peak power demand exhausts or exceeds the supply. Prioritize actual camera power draw from datasheets before ordering. All eight ports operate at full gigabit speed; no speed negotiation required.
When to Choose a Different Model
If you require managed features (VLAN tagging, port mirroring, SNMP monitoring), select a managed TP-Link desktop switch variant. For outdoor or harsh-environment deployment, seek an industrial-grade switch with DIN-rail mounting and wider operating temperature range. If PoE budget is insufficient, add a separate PoE injector or midspan to extend power delivery to additional devices.
