Overview
The VE-5X5 is a 5x5 surface mount back box built from 0.062" (16-gauge) cold rolled steel with a UV-stable black fine texture powder coat finish. It gives installers a clean, permanent surface-mount enclosure for Viking Electronics intercoms, entry systems, and associated intercom and access control devices where flush or recessed mounting is not practical — exposed masonry, metal doors, exterior walls, and similar substrates. The VE-5X5 measures 5.22" x 5.14" x 3.4" (133mm x 131mm x 86mm), providing a box depth that accommodates the wiring and hardware typical of Viking's entry-phone product family. The 16-gauge CRS construction resists physical deformation in high-traffic or vandal-prone corridors better than thin-gauge alternatives. The 16-gauge CRS box wall thickness (0.062") supports standard sheet-metal screw anchoring into wood or light steel framing; for masonry installs, use appropriate anchor hardware sized for the box's mounting-hole pattern. Knockouts are pre-scored — a standard knockout punch or screwdriver and hammer are sufficient. Conduit entry via the 0.75" knockout is compatible with 1/2" EMT or FMC, which covers most low-voltage Viking wiring runs. The UV-stable finish is applied to both the box exterior and visible panel face, so the surface mount enclosure presents a consistent appearance when installed with the matching VE-5X5-PNL panel.
