Overview
The VE-5X5-SS is a surface-mount enclosure built from 0.060-inch (16-gauge) marine-grade 316 stainless steel with a #4B brushed finish — the right choice when a standard painted-steel box won't hold up to salt air, high-wash environments, or vandal-prone exteriors. At 5.22″ × 5.14″ × 3.4″ (133 × 131 × 86mm) and 2 lbs, it gives Viking VE-series entry and intercom products a clean, corrosion-resistant surface-mount home without requiring a recessed rough-in. Specify this instead of the standard VE-5×5 painted-steel variant anywhere coastal, industrial, or high-humidity exposure is a factor.
Compatibility
Designed for the Viking Electronics VE-series product line. Mounts directly to a wall, post, single gang box, double gang box, or any Viking gooseneck pedestal — the same footprint as the standard VE-5×5 painted-steel box, so it slots into any installation already dimensioned for that enclosure. The closely related VE-5X5-PNL-SS variant shares identical outer dimensions and material spec (5.22″ × 5.14″ × 3.4″, 16-gauge 316 stainless, #4B brushed) and adds a 12-gauge aluminum panel for products requiring a sub-panel mount. Installation Notes
316 stainless is non-magnetic and harder to tap than mild steel — use sharp stainless-rated bits and cutting fluid if field-drilling additional knockouts. The #4B brushed finish will show fingerprints during installation; wipe down with a clean stainless cloth after wiring to prevent surface staining. Box depth of 3.4″ accommodates standard VE-series wiring runs; verify terminal block clearance for any add-on surge or relay modules before closing.
