Description

Allied Telesis AT-MMC2000/ST-960 Gigabit Copper-to-Multimode Fiber Media Converter

Overview

The AT-MMC2000/ST-960 is a TAA-compliant media and rate converter from Allied Telesis that bridges 10/100/1000BASE-T copper infrastructure to 1000BASE-SX multimode fiber via an ST connector interface. It is designed for multi-region deployment in federal, government, and enterprise environments where TAA compliance is a procurement requirement. The AT-MMC2000/ST-960 eliminates the need to re-cable copper-only segments when extending a network across distances that exceed copper's 100-meter ceiling — the converter hands off to fiber, which can span hundreds of meters depending on the multimode fiber grade in use. It also handles rate conversion, so mismatched copper and fiber segments operating at different speeds interconnect without manual re-provisioning.

Compatibility

This unit uses an ST-type optical connector and is designed for multimode fiber (SX) links operating at 1000BASE-SX wavelengths. It is compatible with Allied Telesis media converter chassis and standalone deployments. The copper port auto-negotiates across 10/100/1000BASE-T, making it interoperable with standard enterprise switches, IP cameras, NVRs, and access control panels connected via Cat5e or Cat6 cabling. ST fiber patch panels and ST-terminated multimode runs (OM1, OM2, OM3, or OM4) connect directly to the optical interface. Verify that the remote fiber endpoint also terminates in an ST connector or includes an ST adapter before ordering.

Installation Notes

This is a multi-region unit, meaning the power input accommodates varying regional voltages — confirm your chassis or power supply matches the converter's input specification before deployment. TAA compliance makes this unit eligible for U.S. federal procurement under Trade Agreements Act requirements; retain documentation for GSA or contract vehicle submissions. ST connectors require a push-and-twist locking motion — do not substitute SC or LC fiber patch cords without an adapter, as the optical coupling will not seat correctly.
