Overview
The STI-1221A4X is a Type 4X stainless steel back box engineered to house and protect strobe and audible signaling devices in access control and security installations. It solves the mounting and environmental protection problem for integrators deploying notification appliances in harsh, wet, or corrosive environments where standard plastic or painted metal housings fail. The 4" depth accommodates standard strobe/sounder modules while the Type 4X rating (stainless construction) resists salt spray, washdowns, and chemical exposure — critical in dock, car wash, marine, and industrial facility deployments.
Compatibility
The STI-1221A4X works as a back-box enclosure for STI strobe and audible notification devices within the STI product family. It accepts standard 3/4" rigid conduit and is drilled for typical access control panel mounting. The internal dimensions (6.5" W × 8.5" H × 3.5" D) and frame assembly support common strobe and sounder form factors used in commercial access control systems. Mounting clamps and standoff blocks allow secure installation in wet environments (standoff blocks are required in areas with frequent washdowns per STI documentation). The frame accommodates wire access for conduit and power distribution typical of access control installations.
Installation Notes
Mount using the provided #10 × 1½" head cap screws (4x) into frame assembly slots. For high-washdown environments, install the optional standoff blocks (SUB-6297B20) to create airspace and improve drainage. The back of the frame may be drilled to allow added wire access if environmental conditions require. Conduit entry uses 3/4" rigid conduit hubs. Ensure local NEC, NFPA, and applicable electrical codes are followed during installation. The Type 4X stainless enclosure requires no special tools beyond standard socket head drivers; Rawl plugs are provided for anchor installation into concrete or masonry.
