STI STI-7520-OWHTR Heated Type 4X Protective Cabinet
Overview
The STI STI-7520-OWHTR is a NEMA 4X heated polycarbonate enclosure designed to protect access control readers, processors, and strike mechanisms in outdoor and unheated environments. The integrated radiant heating plate maintains the interior above freezing—critical for preventing LCD screens from slowing or failing, and keeping electronic components operational in temperatures as low as −40°F. This enclosure solves the deployment problem of installing credential readers at vehicle gates, perimeter access points, and outdoor loading docks where environmental durability and thermal control are both required.
Compatibility
The cabinet accommodates standard access control readers and strike mechanisms typical of commercial perimeter systems. It is designed to house electronic components and control units in outdoor, unheated warehouse, and freezer environments. The external key or thumb-operated lock secures the enclosure against vandalism and accidental damage. Mounting hardware and weathertight seals are included, allowing integration into existing access control frames and door assemblies.
Installation Notes
The heating element operates on 12, 16.5, or 24 VAC/VDC, accommodating most standard access control power supplies. The cabinet includes three thermostats: one control thermostat, one safety thermostat for overheat protection, and an audible warning indicator. Polycarbonate properties span −40° to 250°F, ensuring the material remains stable across temperature extremes. Mounting hardware and weathertight seals are factory-supplied; no additional gaskets or fasteners are typically needed for standard door-frame installation.
