Description

STI EP181604-O Low-Profile Polycarbonate Enclosure

Overview

The EP181604-O is a low-profile polycarbonate enclosure from STI's EnviroArmour® line, sized 18 inches wide by 16 inches deep. This NEMA 4X-rated unit provides weatherproof, corrosion-resistant protection for access control panels, keypads, readers, and control devices in outdoor or high-moisture indoor environments. The polycarbonate construction delivers optical clarity for status indicators while resisting impact, UV exposure, and salt-spray corrosion — solving the vandalism and environmental degradation problem common to exposed electrical cabinets in commercial, industrial, and institutional settings.

Compatibility

This enclosure accommodates standard access control panels, credential readers (card, PIN, or biometric), door strike controllers, and integrated alarm/notification devices that fit within the 18-by-16-inch internal envelope. Verify mounting depth against your specific panel footprint before ordering. Compatible with standard electrical wiring (12 AWG through 14 AWG for typical control circuits) and conduit entry through knockout provisions. Works with 24 VDC and 110/240 VAC control systems common to enterprise access control deployments.

Installation Notes

NEMA 4X rating ensures the unit withstands direct spray from any direction without water ingress — appropriate for loading docks, rooftop equipment areas, and coastal installations. Polycarbonate is impact-resistant but not impervious to grinding or cutting tools; position away from unsupervised public access if tampering prevention is critical. Mount using corrosion-resistant fasteners (stainless steel or 300-series recommended) to avoid galvanic corrosion on the mounting frame. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit if housing active electronics to prevent heat buildup — forced-air cooling may be required in direct sunlight or thermal-heavy installations.
