Overview
The Viking Electronics E-10A is a telephone line powered, two-way hands-free speaker phone built for door and gate entry applications in both residential and commercial installs. No separate power supply or data network required — the E-10A draws 18 VDC at 20mA minimum directly from the telephone line, meaning your existing POTS or analog PBX infrastructure carries the load. The call button initiates communication with the inside station without any additional wiring runs. At 5" x 5" x 2.25", it fits a standard single-gang rough-in box or mounts surface-flush with the included rough-in box, keeping the install clean in finished lobbies, vestibules, and gated access points. For surface-mount deployments where flush mounting isn't practical, the optional VE-5x5 surface box adapts the same unit.
Compatibility
The E-10A integrates with any analog telephone system, POTS line, or analog PBX extension that supplies a minimum 18 VDC at 20mA and 25V AC RMS ring voltage. It is part of Viking's E-Series door entry phone family alongside the E-10A-EWP (the extreme-weather variant rated to 100% condensing humidity) and the E-20B. The included rough-in box accepts standard 4" x 4" gang box openings. Surface mounting requires the separately sold VE-5x5 surface enclosure. Pair with any Viking analog door controller or intercom master station that handles a 0.8A REN load and a 300ms minimum CPC disconnect.
Installation Notes
IP66 ingress protection means the E-10A handles direct water jets and dust — correct for covered outdoor entries and gates, but the standard model caps humidity at 95% non-condensing; if the unit will see condensation or full weather exposure without a canopy, specify the E-10A-EWP variant instead. Operating range is -30°F to 150°F (-34°C to 65°C), covering most North American outdoor environments without a heater. Speaker output reaches approximately 70dB at 1 meter — adequate for a single door position but not a noisy loading dock. Shipping weight is 2 lbs; plan for standard single-gang box support only.
