Overview

The E-20B-EWP is a telephone line powered, hands-free entry speaker phone designed for two-way communication at commercial and residential doors, gates, and access points where weather exposure is a real concern. Unlike the standard E-20B, the E-20B-EWP adds Enhanced Weather Protection (EWP) — pushing humidity tolerance up to 100% condensing, versus 95% non-condensing on the base model. That difference matters in coastal installs, covered exterior entries, and any environment where condensation is routine. The unit draws power directly from the telephone line (18 VDC / 20mA minimum), so no separate power supply or low-voltage wiring run is required — just connect it to an analog phone line or compatible access control system and it's operational. IP66 ingress protection means direct water jets and dust won't compromise the unit.

Compatibility

The E-20B-EWP is compatible with any analog telephone line or entry phone system that supplies a minimum ring voltage of 25V AC RMS and supports a REN load of 0.8A. It is designed for surface mounting to a standard single-gang electrical box or a 4" x 4" electrical junction box — the box is not included and must be sourced separately. It integrates with Viking Electronics entry phone systems and is part of the Viking E-Series analog door entry phone line alongside the E-10A. It is not a VoIP or SIP device; installations requiring IP-based communication should evaluate Viking's IP entry phone offerings instead.

Installation Notes

Surface mount only — no flush or recessed mounting option. Requires a single-gang or 4" x 4" junction box (not included) as the mounting base. Operating temperature range of -30°F to 150°F (-34°C to 65°C) covers most North American outdoor environments year-round. The EWP variant handles up to 100% condensing humidity, making it suitable for covered exterior locations where a standard model would risk moisture ingress over time. Speaker output is approximately 70 dB maximum at 1 meter — adequate for a single-door entry point but not for high-ambient-noise environments such as loading docks near active equipment. CPC disconnect requires a minimum 300ms signal; verify your telephone system or access controller meets this threshold before wiring.
