The LLA-1 is a single-line long loop adapter from Viking Electronics that bridges the gap between PABX/KSU station ports and off-premise extension (OPX) telephone equipment. When the loop distance exceeds what an analog station port can reliably drive — a common problem in campus deployments, warehouse extensions, and multi-building installations — the LLA-1 regenerates both talk battery and ringing locally, eliminating the need to run dedicated central-office-grade circuits. The LLA-1 plugs into a standard telecom accessory installation and powers from 120V AC, producing 48 VDC talk battery and a clean 20 Hz, 105V AC sine-wave ring signal capable of driving up to 10 REN of load — enough for a single analog phone or a small ring group. Caller ID signaling passes through transparently, so the remote extension retains full caller identification without any additional equipment.
The LLA-1 is designed for use with PABX and KSU analog station ports, ISDN terminal adapters, and channel bank FXS ports. It supports both pulse (10 pps) and DTMF dialing, making it compatible with legacy rotary-style analog equipment as well as modern touchtone sets. Hook switch flash timing is recognized in the 200ms–500ms window, covering the vast majority of PBX transfer and hold signaling. CPC (Calling Party Control) disconnect pulses are duplicated with original timing, so the host switch receives clean disconnect supervision from the remote end. For multi-line OPX applications, Viking's LLA-4 four-line variant covers up to four simultaneous analog stations on a single unit. The LLA-1 is not intended for VoIP or SIP trunks — it operates strictly in the analog domain.
Power the unit from a 120V AC outlet; the internal supply produces 13.8V AC at 1.25A. Electrical isolation between the telephone circuit and the power supply is rated at 1500 VDC, protecting both the PBX port and the connected phone from ground faults and transient events on the loop. Audio insertion loss is 1.3 dB — negligible in a single-hop deployment, but worth accounting for if cascading multiple loop extenders. Operating temperature range is 32°F to 90°F (0°C to 32°C) at 5%–95% non-condensing humidity; this is an indoor-only unit and should not be installed in unheated equipment rooms, outdoor enclosures, or environments subject to condensation. Footprint is 5.25
