Overview

The Viking LLA-4 is a four-channel long loop and off-premise extension (OPX) adapter designed to rehabilitate low-voltage analog lines that can't support standard station equipment. Where a PABX, KSU, or ISDN terminal adapter delivers weak talk battery or marginal ring signals — common over extended cable runs or older wiring plants — the LLA-4 brings each line up to a solid 48 VDC talk battery and drives a 105 VAC sine wave ring at 20 Hz with up to 10 REN load capacity. The result is reliable loop current and ringing for analog stations that would otherwise fail to operate at distance. The unit handles both pulse (10 pps) and DTMF dialing without signal degradation, and its 1500 VDC electrical isolation protects connected equipment from transients on extended loops. Audio loss is held to 1.3 dB across all four channels, preserving voice intelligibility over long runs. CPC (Calling Party Control) timing is duplicated from the original line, so feature signaling passes through transparently. Hook switch flash timing is compatible with the 200 ms to 500 ms range standard to most analog station equipment. Power is 120V AC with a 15V AC 2.2A adapter included. Operating environment is 32°F to 90°F at 5–95% noncondensing humidity — suitable for a conditioned equipment room or wiring closet, not an outdoor or industrial enclosure.

Compatibility

The LLA-4 is compatible with Viking Electronics analog door and intercom stations, PABX and KSU analog station ports, ISDN terminal adapters requiring analog loop extension, and any standard 2-wire analog telephone interface operating at sub-standard loop current over extended cable. It is not a VoIP or SIP gateway — it operates exclusively in the analog loop domain. Installation Notes

The 1.75" x 19" x 5.0" chassis mounts in a standard 1U rack enclosure — confirm 19" rack availability at the installation site. All four lines terminate via 18 removable cage clamp screw terminals, which accept field wiring without specialized tooling and simplify moves and changes. Power the unit from a protected 120V AC circuit; the 15V AC 2.2A supply must be used as specified — do not substitute. Keep the unit within the 32°F–90°F operating range; avoid unventilated enclosures in warm equipment rooms. The 1500 VDC electrical isolation rating provides transient protection but is not a substitute for proper grounding of the distribution frame.
