SDC 474MU Touchless Exit Switch
Overview
The SDC 474MU is a wave-to-open infrared exit switch designed for touchless door control in hygiene-critical and high-traffic environments. This single-gang 474M unit mounts in standard electrical boxes and communicates egress intent via momentary contact closure to electric locks, strikes, or automatic door operators — no network connection or credential reader required. Common deployments: hospital bathrooms, cleanroom anteroom doors, schools, labs, and office entry corridors where eliminating hand contact improves sanitation and throughput.
Compatibility
The 474MU works with any door control system that accepts a momentary SPDT contact (normally open or normally closed). Pair it with SDC magnetic locks (350, 600, 1200 series), electric strikes (1591, 1592, 1594 series), or third-party solenoid-actuated locks rated for 3A @ 30VDC. The sensor output drives relay modules, access control panels, or door operators directly. No credential reader, no network protocol — purely hardware-based switching logic. Input voltage 12–24VDC ±10% supports both legacy 12V and standard 24VDC door control power supplies. Manual override provides mechanical SPDT backup for emergency egress or power loss.
Installation Notes
Mounts in a single-gang electrical box using stainless-steel faceplate (20-gauge). Wiring: two conductor (NO/NC switchable) and 24VDC supply. Sensor read range 2–7 inches (nominal 4 inches); position flush to door frame or wall for consistent wave detection. Standby current draw 36 mA, active draw 45 mA — minimal impact on shared 24VDC circuits. Depth 1 3/8" fits standard outlet boxes. Manual override toggle provides fail-safe egress control independent of sensor. No maintenance beyond occasional faceplate cleaning to prevent dust buildup on IR lens.
