Overview

The PRX-2 is a 125 kHz proximity card reader and keypad combined into a single unit, designed for door and gate access control deployments where you need both credential and PIN entry at one reader location. It outputs standard Wiegand 26-bit data for card reads, making it compatible with the overwhelming majority of access controllers on the market that accept industry-standard Wiegand input. The keypad supports selectable 8-Bit Burst (default) or 26-Bit Wiegand output, so it integrates cleanly into existing Wiegand-wired panel infrastructure without additional adapters. The IP66 rating and –40°F to 150°F operating range mean this reader holds up in outdoor vestibules, loading dock entries, and cold-storage facilities where temperature swings and weather exposure would knock out a lesser unit.

Compatibility

The PRX-2 is compatible with any access control panel or entry controller that accepts Wiegand 26-bit input — the de facto standard across the industry. It pairs directly with Viking entry controllers including systems designed to work alongside the Viking Electronics access control line. The 8-Bit Burst keypad output is compatible with controllers expecting that format as default; 26-Bit Wiegand keypad mode is selectable for panels that require it. Any controller accepting standard Wiegand data from a proximity card reader will integrate with the PRX-2 without protocol conversion. Pair with a compatible access control panel that provides 5–14 VDC reader power on the Wiegand bus — no separate power supply required if your panel supplies it within that range.

Installation Notes

Mounts directly to a standard single-gang electrical box — no custom backplate or adapter needed. Connections are made via an 8-inch pigtail with 22-gauge leads; cable runs up to 500 ft are supported using seven-conductor, shielded, stranded cable, which matters on longer exterior runs where unshielded cable picks up interference and causes read errors. Current draw peaks at 115 mA, so verify your controller's reader port can supply that without triggering an overcurrent fault — most commercial panels are rated well above this, but budget panels with multiple readers on one supply rail can be marginal.
