Overview
The PRX-5 is a compact 125 KHz proximity card reader with integrated keypad, built for mullion-mount installations on metal door or window frames where space is tight and a combined credential + PIN option is required. This single device handles both card-only and card-plus-keypad workflows — eliminating the need for a separate reader and keypad. The PRX-5 outputs 26-bit Wiegand (the de facto standard for access control panels) and supports 8-Bit Burst keypad format as an alternate output mode, giving you flexibility when pairing to panels that expect one or the other. Operating range is 5 to 16 VDC, draws 70 mA typical (110 mA peak), and the 18-inch pigtail lead simplifies termination at standard door frames without extension wiring in most installs.
Compatibility
The PRX-5 is compatible with any access control panel accepting standard 26-bit Wiegand input — including access control systems from HID-compatible panel lines (Lenel, Software House, DSC, Bosch, Honeywell Pro-Watch, and similar). It also integrates directly with Viking Electronics door controllers and entry systems that accept Wiegand readers. The keypad's 8-Bit Burst mode is compatible with panels expecting burst-format keypad data. Maximum cable run between the PRX-5 and the control panel is 500 feet — sufficient for most commercial door and perimeter applications without signal repeaters. Proximity card formats: standard 125 KHz (EM-compatible); read range up to 6 inches for proximity cards, approximately 3 inches for fob-style credentials.
