The MC-PIM400-485 is a PIM400-485 panel interface module that bridges an RS485 serial bus to a Wiegand access-control panel input. Sites with legacy Wiegand-only panels can still integrate modern OSDP / RS485 devices by passing the data through the PIM400-485, preserving the existing panel investment while unlocking secure-channel reader benefits at the door.

OSDP is the secure-channel successor to Wiegand. Where Wiegand sends clear-text card data on a short cable, OSDP encrypts the link and supports tampering monitoring, longer cable runs, and bi-directional reader communication. Customers want OSDP at the door but cannot always replace their installed panel base. The PIM400-485 is the bridge that allows the field upgrade to OSDP without the panel refresh, deferring CapEx and letting the customer phase the migration on their own timeline.
Install the PIM near the panel and run RS485 out to the readers; minimize the Wiegand side of the link to its native short-distance regime. Configure end-of-line termination on the RS485 bus to keep signal integrity clean. After install, verify card reads on the OSDP side and confirm the panel receives the Wiegand stream cleanly through a few test cards. Document the interface module in the as-built so future technicians know the channel is bridged.
