Description

NETGEAR AXC7620-10000S 20M Direct Attach Active Optical SFP+ Cable

Overview

The AXC7620-10000S is a 20-meter active optical SFP+ cable designed to bridge 10 Gbps network segments without the distance or power constraints of passive copper DACs. At 20 meters, this cable solves the backbone interconnect problem in multi-building surveillance deployments — the distance where standard copper SFP+ DACs (typically maxed at 7 meters) stop working, but you don't want to install a full 10G switch at each remote location. Active optical technology means the transceiver intelligence is built into the connector itself, so you deploy it end-to-end without configuration overhead.

Compatibility

The AXC7620-10000S operates on any device with standard SFP+ ports rated for 10 Gbps operation. This includes high-end network switches (Netgear M4300 series, Arista, Cisco Nexus, Juniper), NVRs with 10G SFP+ uplinks (Hikvision DS-8632NI-E8, Milestone XProtect hardware appliances with SFP+ interfaces), and server-class NAS units with dual SFP+ connectivity. Verify your endpoint documentation explicitly lists SFP+ 10 Gbps support — some switches and NVRs include SFP+ ports but pin them to 1 Gbps operation only.

Installation Notes

Insertion force is modest — align the connector straight and push firmly until you hear a click. Do not force: if resistance exceeds hand-pressure, stop and inspect the connector for dust or misalignment. The cable itself is armored but remains bend-sensitive; maintain a minimum bend radius of 15 cm (6 inches) during deployment. Avoid routing through high-vibration zones or across sharp edges without protective conduit. For outdoor backbone runs, enclose the 20-meter span in fiber-rated conduit to protect against UV and abrasion. The active electronics inside the connector connectors draw minimal power from the 3.3V signaling rail on the SFP+ host port — no external power supply required.
