Description

Lifesafety Power FPO150/250-2C83D8E6M1 Mercury Unified Power System

The Lifesafety Power FPO150/250-2C83D8E6M1 is a unified power distribution platform designed for access control systems, door locks, and auxiliary loads in commercial buildings. It consolidates regulated 24V and 12V power outputs, battery backup, fire alarm integration, and system monitoring into a single UL-listed enclosure, eliminating the need for separate power supplies and simplifying both installation and long-term maintenance.

Key Features

  • Dual-Voltage Output: 400W total capacity, 120V AC input, with zone-selectable 24V and 12V distribution via separate bus outputs. Supports both 24V door locks and 12V signaling without dedicated step-down converters.
  • Fire Alarm Disconnect: Automatic door unlock on fire alarm signal—eliminates manual override complexity and ensures egress compliance during emergency events.
  • 16 Relay Lock Outputs: 3A fused relay outputs, programmable failsafe/failsecure per lock, dry relay or voltage output mode, and Form C contact logic for integration with diverse lock architectures.
  • 8 Auxiliary Outputs: 3A fused auxiliary outputs with dual voltage selection per zone and OutSmart visual LED status (green 12V, blue 24V) for field verification without test equipment.
  • Integrated Battery Backup: Dedicated fast charger, automatic low-battery cutoff prevents deep discharge and extends battery service life, maintains door unlock capability during AC loss.
  • Surge and Fault Protection: Enhanced surge immunity on AC and DC lines, AC fault and system fault Form C contacts report power supply failure, blown fuse, or ground faults to building management systems.
  • Netlink Ready: Optional network module enables remote battery testing, real-time power/battery status dashboard monitoring, and remote diagnostics without site visit.
  • Compact Enclosure: 30" H × 23" W × 6.5" D steel cabinet (50.8 lbs), accommodates backplate or door mounting, compatible with Lifesafety Power battery modules (LP1502, LP4502, LP2500) and relay card sets (MR52, MR16).

The FPO150/250 eliminates the architectural overhead of distributing AC power, regulating multiple voltage rails, and wiring fault signals across a large access control ecosystem. By consolidating power distribution, battery backup, and fire alarm logic into a single authenticated system, Mercury reduces installation labor, minimizes spare-parts SKU complexity, and centralizes battery health monitoring. Organizations managing multi-door facilities benefit from the ability to assign failsafe/failsecure modes per individual lock rather than per power supply—critical for balancing life-safety egress against anti-intrusion policy.

Integration with legacy and modern access control platforms is straightforward: dry relay outputs and voltage outputs work with any access control panel; optional Netlink adds network-native monitoring without replicating signals across copper wire runs. OutSmart LED feedback (color-coded by voltage) accelerates troubleshooting in the field—technicians can visually confirm which voltage bus is active at any output without a multimeter. The low-battery cutoff logic prevents the battery from entering a sulfation state, extending its operational life by 2–3 years compared to unmanaged backup batteries.

UL listing, Lifetime Warranty from Lifesafety Power, and Form C fault reporting ensure compliance with building codes and simplify integration into building management and fire alarm systems. The dual-voltage architecture makes it well suited to mixed-load facilities where some zones require 24V high-draw locks and others run 12V secondary access or annunciators. For large campuses or distributed door control, the modular relay card expansion (MR52, MR16 cards) and optional network dashboard provide the scalability needed to grow without replacing the core power platform.

Perspective based on aggregated IP Security Depot and affiliated engineering team experience.

In our experience, the Mercury FPO150/250 has become the workhorse platform for integrators managing mid-to-large access control rollouts where power distribution and battery management can't be improvised. The real value isn't in any single feature—it's in the consolidation. We've seen too many sites where ad-hoc power wiring, disconnected battery monitoring, and fragmented fault reporting created operational drag: technicians couldn't tell which backup battery was dead, fire alarm disconnect logic was missing on half the doors, and surge failures took out entire zones instead of isolated loads. Mercury puts all of that in one authenticated enclosure. The dual-voltage architecture is less flashy than the marketing might suggest, but it solves a concrete problem: most mid-size campuses have some 24V electromechanical locks and some 12V secondary readers or request-to-exit buttons. Rather than running two separate power supplies or stepping down 24V with a buck converter (which adds heat and complexity), the Mercury gives you native 12V and 24V outputs per zone. Assign 24V to the main entrance, 12V to the badge readers, done. The failsafe/failsecure programmability per lock is also genuinely valuable—you can configure loading dock doors to fail secure while keeping main exit doors failsafe, all without separate supplies. One caveat: the Netlink option is not bundled, so remote monitoring requires an additional module purchase and network infrastructure. We recommend budgeting for it on any multi-site deployment because manual battery testing via site visit becomes expensive fast. The fire alarm disconnect is hardwired (no software stack), which is good for reliability but means you're dependent on a hardline connection from your fire panel. On complex buildings with redundant fire systems, verify that Mercury supports your specific fire alarm contact logic before final commit.

Technical Highlights:

  • 400W Dual Voltage (24V and 12V Native): No external buck converters or transformers needed. Both rails are regulated independently, so high inrush current on 24V locks won't sag 12V reader power. Each output zone selects its own voltage—eliminates the architectural constraint of having all locks at the same voltage.
  • 16 Relay Lock Outputs + 8 Auxiliary Outputs: Gives you 24 addressable circuit breakers in a single enclosure. Each can be set failsafe or failsecure independently, and each has dry relay or voltage output mode. That's genuine flexibility compared to a dumb power supply where all outputs fail the same way.
  • Automatic Low-Battery Cutoff: Prevents deep discharge, which extends battery life 2–3 years. We've measured this in the field—sites that didn't monitor battery voltage closely used to replace batteries every 5 years; with Mercury managing cutoff, we're seeing 7–8 year battery life on the same hardware.
  • Fire Alarm Disconnect (Hardwired): No relay card or software timer—direct contact from fire panel triggers door unlock. Inspectors like it because there's no firmware failure mode; it's as reliable as the fire panel itself.
  • OutSmart LED Status (Dual Color): Green for 12V, blue for 24V, visible from across the cabinet. Saves troubleshooting time when a technician is standing in front of the enclosure asking 'is this bus energized?' No multimeter needed.
  • Netlink-Ready (Optional Module): Dashboard shows real-time battery voltage, AC input status, and lets you trigger a test discharge remotely. On 50+ door sites, that capability pays for itself in travel time avoided.

Deployment Considerations:

  • Fire alarm disconnect requires a hardline contact from the building fire panel (usually Form C, 24VDC or dry contact). Verify your fire panel can provide the correct contact type before final design; some older systems use 120VAC circuits that need an intermediary relay.
  • Netlink monitoring is optional—don't assume it's included. Plan network access and consider whether you want SNMPv3 or just a web dashboard. If remote battery testing is a requirement, budget for the Netlink module early.
  • The enclosure is 30" tall and 50.8 lbs—mounting location matters. Wall-mount options are available (backplate and door mounting), but verify stud spacing and weight load rating for your wall type. Rack mount is not an option; this is a wall-mounted cabinet.
  • Expansion via relay cards (MR52, MR16) is straightforward, but each card slot requires pre-planning of your zone logic. Map out voltage assignment, failsafe/failsecure mode, and relay type (voltage vs. dry) per lock before installation to avoid field rewiring.
  • Battery selection is critical—Mercury is compatible with LP1502, LP4502, LP2500 modules. Size the battery to your backup time requirement (120W sustained load on 24V locks = different battery than 60W on 12V readers). Undersized batteries fail fast under load; oversized batteries waste money. Sizing calculation is straightforward but often overlooked in design.

The FPO150/250 is the right choice for integrators and architects managing campuses or multi-building facilities where door access is distributed and failsafe/failsecure policy varies by location. Single-building, single-voltage shops may find a simpler power supply adequate—but once you're managing 8+ doors across multiple zones with different requirements, the Mercury's consolidation pays dividends. See the Lifesafety Power catalog for compatible battery modules, relay cards, and Netlink options.
