Description

Lenovo 4XH7A85901 SR665 V3 8x2.5-Inch Anybay Backplane Option Kit

Overview

The Lenovo 4XH7A85901 is an 8x2.5-inch Anybay backplane option kit designed to expand drive bay capacity in the ThinkSystem SR665 V3 server. Anybay architecture means the same backplane supports NVMe, SAS, and SATA drives in any combination — so you can mix storage tiers or transition from SAS to NVMe without swapping the backplane. If you're building out an SR665 V3 for mixed-workload storage or staging a phased NVMe migration, this is the specific kit that makes it possible.

Compatibility

This kit is engineered specifically for the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR665 V3 rack server. It is not cross-compatible with SR665 V2 or earlier SR665 variants — the V3 chassis uses a distinct backplane form factor and connector layout. Before ordering, confirm your chassis is the SR665 V3 (not V2 or Gen 1). For other ThinkSystem server storage expansion options across the SR6xx and SR7xx families, verify the specific backplane part number against your server's hardware maintenance manual. Pairing this backplane with a compatible drive cage and cable kit is required — the 4XH7A85901 is the backplane assembly only; signal and power cables are ordered separately.

Installation Notes

The kit weighs 1.00 lb, consistent with a bare backplane assembly without drive sleds or cable bundles. Installation requires chassis access with the server powered down and racked out. Follow Lenovo's SR665 V3 hardware maintenance manual for backplane seating sequence — incorrect seating order can prevent NVMe enumeration on boot. Confirm firmware is updated to a revision that supports the Anybay backplane before installing drives post-assembly.
