Description

Lenovo 4XH7A86661 SR650 V3 4x2.5-Inch Anybay Rear Backplane Option Kit

Overview

The Lenovo 4XH7A86661 is a rear backplane option kit designed to expand drive connectivity in the ThinkSystem SR650 V3 rack server. This kit adds four 2.5-inch Anybay drive bays at the rear of the chassis — Anybay meaning the same physical bay accepts SAS, SATA, or U.2 NVMe drives without a hardware change. If your SR650 V3 workload is outgrowing its front-bay storage allocation or you need rear-accessible NVMe expansion for latency-sensitive applications, this kit addresses that without a chassis swap. Manufactured in Mexico and distributed as a genuine Lenovo option (part 4XH7A86661), it is sourced factory-new through channel-direct distribution.

Compatibility

This kit is designed for the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 V3 server platform specifically. The SR650 V3 is a 2U dual-socket server in Lenovo's current ThinkSystem generation. The Anybay backplane architecture it installs into supports SAS/SATA and NVMe U.2 drives in the same bays, giving you flexibility to mix drive types as your storage tier requirements evolve. This option kit is not interchangeable with SR650 (Gen 1 or Gen 2), SR630, or other ThinkSystem models — confirm your chassis is the V3 revision before ordering. If you are expanding storage across a broader server storage components build-out, verify the rear bay configuration against the SR650 V3 Configuration Guide to ensure backplane-to-controller cabling compatibility.

Installation Notes

At 10 lb, the kit includes the physical backplane assembly and associated hardware for rear bay integration. Installation requires access to the SR650 V3 rear drive cage area with the server depowered and racked out. Anybay backplane cabling must connect to a compatible storage controller already provisioned in the system — confirm controller support for NVMe or SAS/SATA depending on the drive types you intend to populate. No drive population is included; this is the backplane infrastructure only.
