The K-1900-712L is the short-cable variant of Viking's K-1900-7 series hot-line panel phone, shipping with a 12" armored handset cable (12"–12.7" / 31–33 cm) and an internal stainless steel lanyard that reinforces the cable against pull-out and vandalism. Where the standard K-1900-7 uses a 34"–37" cord and the EWP variant runs 52"–57", this model is the right pick when wall-mounted enclosures are shallow or flush and cord management space is limited — correctional facilities, elevator cabs, kiosk enclosures, and industrial control rooms are typical fits. It runs entirely on telephone line power (20V DC / 18mA minimum), so no separate power supply or home-run AC wiring is needed.
The K-1900-712L is a self-contained panel phone in the Viking Electronics K-1900-7 series. It is the POTS/analog hot-line variant; if your facility is migrating to SIP/VoIP infrastructure, the K-1900-712L-IP covers the same form factor with a 12" cable on an IP platform. The rough-in box (5.0" × 10.0" × 5.2") matches the standard K-1900-7 cutout, so this unit drops into any existing K-1900-7 rough-in without modification. The 14-gauge 316 stainless steel front panel and metal handset cradle are shared across the K-1900-7 family, meaning panel hole patterns and surface hardware are interchangeable within the series.
Operating temperature range is -30°F to 140°F (-34°C to 60°C) with humidity tolerance of 5%–95% non-condensing — suitable for unheated vestibules and outdoor-adjacent spaces, but not direct weather exposure; for that, specify the EWP model (rated to 100% condensing, IP66). The phone dimensions are 5.0" × 10.0" × 5.1" with a rough-in box depth of 5.2". Touch-tone dial speed is programmable (normal 120ms on/off, fast 50ms on/off); pulse dial supports 10 pps normal or 20 pps fast. Speed dial stores up to 32 digits; a 6-digit programmable security code controls access to programming. Telephone line power means the installer needs only a standard POTS pair at the rough-in — no 120V outlet, no low-voltage power supply, no conduit for AC.
