Description

Viking Electronics K-1900-712L-EWP Hot-Line Panel Phone with 12-Inch Armored Cable and Enhanced Weather Protection

Overview

The K-1900-712L-EWP is a telephone-line-powered hot-line panel phone built for outdoor and high-abuse environments where a standard handset cord would fail. The 12-inch armored cable includes an internal stainless steel lanyard that takes the mechanical load off the cable conductors — the right choice when vandal pulling or repeated physical stress is a real concern. The Enhanced Weather Protection (EWP) variant pushes humidity tolerance to 100% condensing, versus the 5–95% non-condensing ceiling of the standard model, making it the correct pick for covered outdoor vestibules, wash-down areas, loading docks, and coastal installations where condensation regularly forms inside enclosures. The K-1900-712L-EWP draws only 20V DC at 18mA minimum directly from the telephone line, so no separate power supply or PoE infrastructure is required — just a POTS loop or loop-powered telephone system. Dialing supports both touch tone and pulse, and the 32-digit programmable speed dial stores in non-volatile memory, surviving power interruptions without reprogramming.

Compatibility

This model is a specific configuration of the Viking Electronics K-1900-7 Series panel phones. It shares the same 316 stainless steel front panel and chassis footprint as the K-1900-712L (standard weather model), differing only in the EWP rear housing that raises humidity tolerance to 100% condensing. The K-1900-712L-EWP is dimensionally compatible with the same rough-in and surface-mount cutouts as the standard K-1900-712L — EWP depth is 5.18 inches versus 5.10 inches, so verify wall-box depth before substituting one for the other. For installations that do not require the armored cable or lanyard, the base K-1900-7-EWP without the armored handset assembly is the leaner option. For VoIP infrastructure, Viking's K-1900-7-IP Series covers the same form factor with SIP/VoIP capability — see the VoIP panel phone category if your site has moved off POTS. Pairs naturally with door entry and access control systems that terminate at a standard telephone loop.

Installation Notes

The front panel is 14-gauge 316 stainless steel — specify this to AHJ if corrosion-resistance documentation is required for coastal or chemical-exposure sites. Operating temperature range is -30°F to 140°F (-34°C to 60°C), which covers most North American outdoor deployments including unheated northern enclosures. EWP model dimensions are 5.0" x 10.0" x 5.18" and shipping weight is 4 lbs — account for the 0.08" depth difference versus the standard model if retrofitting an existing wall box. The telephone-line-powered design means this phone consults your telephone entry planning guide for loop current and voltage verification before install; the 20V DC / 18mA minimum draw must be confirmed against the serving loop or controller output.
