The K-1900-8 is a vandal-resistant hotline panel phone built for high-abuse environments where standard handsets fail — correctional facilities, transit platforms, industrial yards, and outdoor emergency call stations. The 14-gauge 316 stainless steel faceplate is laser-etched rather than printed, so graphics remain readable after years of exposure. The armored cable and included 12-inch lanyard keep the handset tethered and protected against deliberate damage. This is the analog telephone-line-powered variant; it draws a minimum 20V DC at 18mA from the connected line — no separate power supply required in a POTS or ATA-fed deployment. For SIP/VoIP infrastructure, the K-1900-8-IP variant supports PoE (802.3af, Class 2, under 6.5W) and G.711u/a plus G.722 audio codecs over 100BASE-Tx. Operating range spans -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C), making it viable in unheated enclosures, parking structures, and northern outdoor installations without supplemental heating.
The K-1900-8 fits within the Viking Electronics K-1900-7 Series platform. It mounts to any standard rough-in box matching the 5.0" x 10.0" x 5.53" rough-in box footprint. The EWP (Extreme Weather Protection) variant — K-1900-8-EWP — uses a slightly deeper enclosure (5.61" rough-in depth) and supports humidity up to 100%, appropriate for washdown zones or coastal sites. Standard models are rated 5% to 95% non-condensing humidity. The IP variant integrates with any SIP 2.0 (RFC3261)-compliant PBX or call manager. Wiegand input is 26-bit, compatible with the majority of commercial access control readers. The unit supports up to 1,000 keyless entry codes and 1,000 card numbers — sized for mid-to-large access control deployments. For programming, 250 programmable and 250 rollover numbers are available on IP variants. Panel connections include one RJ45 10/100 Base-T port and 14 gel-filled butt connectors for field wiring.
Panel fasteners are (8) 6-32 x 3/4" marine-grade 316 stainless steel flat-head hex-drive screws, included. The armored cable handset cord on the K-1900-8 runs 34" to 37" (86–94 cm); the short-cord variant K-1900-812L-IP uses a 12" to 12.7" (31–33 cm) cable suited for recessed or flush-mount boxes with minimal cord management space. Shipping weight is 5.3 lbs (2.4 kg). Regulatory compliance covers CE, FCC Part 15, and Canada ICES-003 Class A — suitable for US, Canadian, and EU installations without additional certification work.
