Honeywell 5800PIR-RES Wireless PIR Motion Detector
Overview
The Honeywell 5800PIR-RES is a wireless passive infrared motion detector operating on the 345 MHz frequency band. It provides 35 ft x 40 ft coverage and includes selectable pet immunity for animals up to 80 lbs, making it suitable for residential and light commercial environments where pets are present.
Deployment scenarios
This detector is designed for interior perimeter and volumetric protection in homes, offices, and small retail spaces. It pairs with any Honeywell panel that supports 5800-series wireless devices, including VISTA, LYNX Touch, and Lyric controllers. The wireless design eliminates the need for dedicated sensor wiring runs.
Detection and performance
The PIR sensor covers a 35 ft x 40 ft area when mounted at the recommended 7 ft to 9 ft height. Pet immunity is selectable, allowing installers to tune sensitivity based on the environment. The unit operates from 14 F to 131 F (-10 C to 55 C), covering unheated spaces like garages or enclosed porches.
Power and installation
The 5800PIR-RES runs on a single 3 V lithium battery with up to 5 years of life. Dimensions are 3.5" H x 2.5" W x 1.5" D. Mounting is straightforward with the included bracket for wall or corner placement at the recommended height.

The 5800PIR-RES is one of the most commonly deployed wireless PIR detectors in the Honeywell 5800 ecosystem. I have installed hundreds of these across residential and small office environments with reliable performance.
Technical Highlights:
- Pet immunity: Selectable up to 80 lbs reduces false alarms in pet-friendly environments
- Battery life: Up to 5 years on a single 3 V lithium cell keeps maintenance intervals reasonable
Deployment Considerations:
- Mount between 7 ft and 9 ft for optimal coverage pattern and pet immunity performance
- Avoid placing the detector where it faces windows with direct sunlight exposure to prevent thermal false triggers
For installations with larger animals or high-traffic pet areas, verify the pet immunity threshold is appropriate. In rooms with significant heat sources, consider a dual-technology detector instead.
