Overview

The Comnet CNGE8MS is an 8-port managed layer 2 switch designed for surveillance and industrial networks operating in extreme temperature and humidity environments. It combines four fixed 10/100/1000BASE-TX copper ports with four combo ports that accept either Cat5/6 copper or multimode/single-mode optical fiber via optional ComNet SFPs — letting you extend range to remote camera locations or fiber-optic backbone segments without replacing hardware. Built with redundant DC power inputs (12–48 VDC), it maintains operation during single-supply failure, critical in unattended outdoor cabinets or mobile command vehicles. The CNGE8MS is DIN-rail or wall-mountable in 7.43 × 10.92 × 15.36 cm form factor, consuming only 25W typical power.

Compatibility

This switch works with any IEEE 802.3-compliant IP camera, access control system, thermal imager, or network device. It is specifically compatible with surveillance backbones using Axis, Hikvision, Bosch, Pelco, or Uniview cameras — no firmware dependencies. The combo ports accept standard ComNet gigabit SFPs, allowing integration into existing fiber runs (multimode up to 2 km, single-mode beyond 10 km depending on wavelength). C-Ring topology support means you can chain multiple ComNet X-Ring or C-Ring enabled switches for loop protection without manual RSTP configuration. Legacy ring compatibility maintains operation in mixed-vendor ring topologies.

Installation Notes

Mount via DIN-rail (35mm) or wall anchors; no special tools required. Dual DC inputs accommodate redundant UPS or solar power systems — wire positive and negative from separate supplies for automatic failover. The switch operates reliably from −40°C to +75°C and tolerates 5–95% humidity without condensation, qualifying it for outdoor metal enclosures, unheated vehicle cabins, and coastal environments.
