Geovision GV-RAID Areca ARC-1220 8-Port RAID Controller Card
Overview
The GV-RAID is an Areca ARC-1220 PCIe RAID controller card designed for surveillance NVR and server-based storage deployments requiring hardware-level redundancy and multi-terabyte capacity. Install this card into a server or tower chassis when you need independent RAID processing to handle 24/7 multi-camera recording without burdening system CPU. The 8 SATA ports support flexible RAID configurations (0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and JBOD) — pick the level that matches your uptime vs. capacity tradeoff. Hot-swap architecture means you can pull and replace failed drives or add capacity without shutting down the NVR.
Compatibility
The GV-RAID integrates with standard server platforms running Geovision NVR software, Milestone Xprotect, and other VMS platforms that recognize the Areca ARC-1220 controller via PCIe slot and native drivers. Compatible with tower and rack server chassis featuring available PCIe x8 or x16 slots. Works with large-capacity SATA drives (3.5" or 2.5" form factors) to build multi-terabyte storage pools. Confirm BIOS support and driver availability for your specific OS (Windows Server, Linux) before ordering — not all server models provide full hot-swap or firmware update support out of the box.
Installation Notes
Requires an available PCIe x8 or x16 slot in the host server. Install the card into the slot, secure the bracket to the chassis, and connect SATA data and power cables from the power supply to each drive bay. Firmware updates and driver installation must occur before connecting storage devices. Ensure adequate case airflow around the controller and connected drives — prolonged 24/7 recording generates sustained I/O load. Do not rely on the card's onboard cache alone for power-loss protection; pair with server-level UPS and battery-backed power supplies for critical deployments.
