Overview

The Comnet FDX4DM1B transmits four independent bi-directional data channels—RS232, RS422, or 2/4-wire RS485—over a single optical fiber. Deploy this where long-distance, noise-immune serial links are required: roadside traffic control cabinets, remote gate access panels, outdoor alarm sensors, or distributed surveillance PTZ controllers across fiber backbone networks. The plug-and-play design requires no field adjustments; each channel configures independently to match your legacy serial equipment.

Compatibility

The FDX4DM1B integrates with any system using standard serial data protocols: traffic signal controllers (NEMA TS-1/TS-2, Caltrans-certified), access control readers, gate operators, SCADA terminals, and IP camera PTZ receivers over fiber. Multimode (MM) and single-mode (SM) fiber variants support installations from 3 km (MM) to 69 km (SM) without intermediate repeaters. ST or FC optical connectors mate with standard telecom patch cords and cabinet feedthroughs. Power input (8–15 VDC) accepts both regulated 12V supplies and automotive-grade unregulated sources in outdoor cabinets.

Installation Notes

Mount via DIN rail (add Comnet DINBKT1 adaptor plate), wall bracket, or rack frame—interchangeable without rewiring. Bi-color LEDs (red/green) indicate transmit/receive and alarm status at a glance. Voltage transient protection on all power and signal lines prevents damage from surge events common in outdoor environments. Operating range of -40 to +75°C handles unheated cabinets and unshaded enclosures. Standard 4W power draw fits into battery-backed 12V rails typical of traffic and access control installations. Each data channel operates independently in full-duplex or simplex mode; no cross-talk between channels even at maximum 250 Kbps line speed. Bit error rate <1 in 10-9 ensures reliable command transmission to critical devices.
