Overview

The FDX4DM1A is a four-channel bi-directional data transceiver designed to extend RS232, RS422, and RS485 (2-wire or 4-wire) serial communications over a single multimode optical fiber. This solves the practical problem of running command and control data (PTZ controls, access panels, alarm relays, sensor feeds, DVR triggers) across long distances where copper serial lines suffer from noise, distance limitations, and ground loops. Operating range extends to 3 km (2 miles) over standard multimode 62.5/125 µm fiber, making it suitable for roadside installations, campus networks, and out-of-plant industrial environments where electrical isolation and distance are required.

Compatibility

Deploy the FDX4DM1A with any equipment using RS232, RS422, or RS485 interfaces: legacy and modern PTZ cameras, network video recorders with serial control ports, access control systems, gate operators, traffic signal controllers (NEMA TS-1/TS-2 compliant), and SCADA/industrial devices. The transceiver supports simplex or full-duplex operation, so each of the four channels can be independently configured for your specific protocol and data direction. Pairing requires a second unit at the far end (A-end to B-end configuration) to regenerate all four channels back to electrical signals.

Installation Notes

The FDX4DM1A mounts via ComNet ComFit housing—wall-mount, DIN-rail (with DINBKT1 adapter), or 2-slot rack-mount. It draws 4 watts at 8–15 VDC input, eliminating the need for regulated 12V supplies in most field deployments. FC or ST optical connectors are available; verify your fiber termination type before ordering. Environmental ratings (−40 °C to +75 °C operating, 0–95% humidity non-condensing) support unconditioned sheds and outdoor cabinets. Voltage transient protection on all power and signal lines protects against surges common in roadside or electrically noisy environments. No optical or electrical adjustments are required after installation—plug-and-play operation with bi-color LED status indicators (red/green) for rapid troubleshooting.
