Overview

The Comnet CNMC2SFPPOE is a dual-channel Ethernet media converter that bridges copper (10/100/1000BASE-T) to fiber optic (100BASE-FX or 1000BASE-FX via interchangeable SFP modules). It delivers 30W of PoE+ power on the electrical side, making it fit for surveillance deployments where fiber runs distance or cross electrical noise but IP cameras still need DC injection. Auto-negotiation on the copper side means you don't hand-configure each link—it adapts to 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps automatically. Built for -40°C to +75°C industrial environments, it survives roadside cabinets, outdoor shelters, and unconditioned equipment rooms without derating.

Compatibility

The CNMC2SFPPOE works with any IP surveillance camera or network device accepting 10/100/1000 Ethernet and standard PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at, up to 30W). The fiber side accepts industry-standard SFP transceiver modules (sold separately), so you select the exact optical distance and connector type your fiber plant demands—multimode for short runs, single-mode for distances beyond 2 km. The dual-channel design means you can convert two separate copper-to-fiber links from a single unit, reducing rack clutter and cost per channel. Automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover on the copper interface eliminates the need for crossover cables; straight-through and crossover both work.

Installation Notes

The unit operates from 48–57 VDC at 0.85A (standard industrial DC supply range), consuming 35W under full PoE+ load. Dip-switch selection between 100FX and 1000FX happens at install time—no firmware updates, no complex menus. Supports jumbo frames up to 10K bytes, useful for reducing overhead on high-bandwidth surveillance streams. Automatic resettable solid-state current limiters protect against short circuits and transient damage on all power and signal lines; no field-replaceable fuses or manual resets. The Comfit-size enclosure (6.1 × 5.3 × 1.1 inches) mounts in standard 19-inch racks or wall brackets; a smaller mini variant is also available if space is critical. MTBF exceeds 100,000 hours in design, reflecting industrial-grade component selection.
